John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, Somerset, England, was the father of William and Richard who came to America in 1629 and 1638, respectively. They settled in what is now, Salem, Massachusetts.
Tristram Dodge came to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1660/61. He came from England, via Newfoundland, via Taunton, Massachusetts. We believe that his ancestors were came from Northern England

Nathaniel Brown Dodge of Cornish, New Hampshire. Army, DOE Oct. 9, 1861, Co. C, 7th New Hampshire Infantry, DOM Nov. 15, 1861. He was a Private. He was disabled April 7, 1863 and died August 3, 1875
Nathaniel's parents were Nathaniel Dodge and Polly Clark.

Nelson Alexander Dodge, Burnham, Maine; Enlisted: 19 Oct 1861 - Union; Rank Induction: Private; Rank Discharge: Private; 1st Regiment, Maine Cavalry, Co. A. His brother, George, enlisted the same day in the same regiment. George died in the war and is buried in Annapolis National Cemetery, Virginia
Two other brothers, Daniel and Nelson also served in this war.
These brothers were the sons of Daniel Dodge, and Azuba Kimball

When the hospital steamer R. C. Wood pulled away from the waterfront at Vicksburg and slowly headed up river with a load of sick soldiers, at least fifteen of them were from the Thirty-eighth.
On board the R. C. Wood when it left Vicksburg about July 31: were: Co. B, Levi Dodge and his son, Norman E. Dodge.
A few days later it was reported that Henry Saltsgiver, and Orrin Foster had died at the Barracks Hospital in New Orleans. For those who anticipated a trip to northern hospitals the prospect for survival was not any better. In St. Louis twenty-four men died, including the teenage fifer, Norman Dodge.
Norman E., at age 14, has the honor of being the youngest member of Iowa's 38th Infantry. Based on the Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers, It Norman's father, Levi Dodge, age 44, enlisted with him. Norman died in St Louis on August 25, 1863, and is buried in the National Cemetery, Section 6, grave 13.
Norman's father, Levi Dodge, Janesville, Iowa, age 44,enlisted at the same time as his son, Norman E. Dodge on: 20 Aug 1862
