John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, Somerset, England, was the father of William and Richard who came to America in 1629 and 1638, respectively. They settled in what is now, Salem, Massachusetts.
Tristram Dodge came to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1660/61. He came from England, via Newfoundland, via Taunton, Massachusetts. We believe that his ancestors were came from Northern England

Ceylon Milton Dodge was a Civil War Veteran. He signed up for a three hundred dollar bounty. Ceylon M. Dodge served in the Civil War in the 1st. New Hampshire Cavalry, Company K, with the rank of Private and kept that rank throughout his enlistment. Company K was first mustered in Manchester, NH, on October 24, 1862 and was attached to the 1st New England Cavalry. He served the State of New Hampshire and enlisted on February 27, 1864 as a private at the age of 18 (from American Civil War Soldiers). Ceylon was discharged June 22, 1865 in Concord, NH and his p. O. address was Acworth, NH. He was just over 15 years old (from the census of 1850 Lempster, NH and Mitchell genealogy through his sister Amelia Tryphena Dodge) when he mustered in to the service but records show him as being 18 years old (service records say he is 18). His military records can be found in the National Archives, muster rolls for the Civil War, Roll-Box 000549, Roll - Exct: 0004, Roll - Rec: 00000039.
Ceylon's parents were Issac Milton Dodge and Ruth M. Walker and his father, Isaac Milton Dodge fought in the war and was killed in Virginia in 1863

General Charles Cleveland Dodge was commander, Union Army, of the 1st New York Mounted Rifles sharpshooters on horse back in the Civil War. He was later a Brigade General. He made his own Hand drawn map of Suffolk Va. His Unit saw action with pows killed in action; captured material fighting on Blackwater, tibbets mills, and Joyners Ford. He made a 172 mile trip to North Carolina capturing and fighting rebels; capturing horses, rifles, cannons, and officers swords.His obituary states he was wounded in a land battle during battle of the Merrimack and Monitor. He graduated from Yale when he was 16, He was a General appointed by President Lincoln at age 21.

Mr. Dodge joined the army at the beginning of the war of the Rebellion and was in many engagements. He was shot five times. One of these times as he lay in anguish on the battlefield, he was obliged to threaten to shoot a man in order to get water brought to him.
He was appointed Captain by Governor Lucius Fairchild for gallantry in taking Fort Tyler, GA in April 19, 1865.
