John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, Somerset, England, was the father of William and Richard who came to America in 1629 and 1638, respectively. They settled in what is now, Salem, Massachusetts.
Tristram Dodge came to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1660/61. He came from England, via Newfoundland, via Taunton, Massachusetts. We believe that his ancestors were came from Northern England

George Dudley Dodge, Georgia; Confederate Army as a private In the 22nd Battalion, Georgia Heavy Artillery, Co. D.
He was forced into the Civil War in the South. He witnessed the Bombardment and surrender of Fort Sumter. Receiving news of the fatal illness of his father he escaped to to Charlestown and was advertised as a deserter. After eleven weeks of unsucessful efforts he finally escaped in a small sloop to Nassau in Nov 1862. He finally reached home in January 1863.
His parents were George Hubbard Dodge and Mary Keely.

DODGE, Grenville Mellen, United States army officer and civil engineer: b. Dan
He was graduated from the University of Norwich, Vermont, in 1850 and went to work as a railroad engineer in Illinois and then in Iowa, where he settled at Council Bluffs.
In the Civil War he joined the Union forces as a colonel, was promoted brigadier general for gallantry at Pea Ridge, Ark. (1862), where he was wounded, and as a major general again distinguished himself while commanding the 16th Army Corps at the siege of Atlanta, Ga. Afterwards he was given charge of the Missouri Department. He resigned from the army in 1866 to become chief engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad, and by May 10, 1869,
Grenville was the son of Sylvanus Dodge and Julia Theresa Phillips
