He received the Purple Heart as a result of injuries suffered March 24 near Wesel Germany, as a member of the 17th air borne troops. A message coming to his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Ralph Dodge states: "Staff Sgt. Corwin Dodge, for heroic action against the enemy near Wesel Germany on March 24, 1845. Immediately on landing after the airborne crossing of the Rhine River, Staff Sergeant Dodge landed an attack on an enemy command post. Although wounded and under heavy enemy fire he led his squad into position. When he could advance no further because of his wound he covered his men by his fire as they went forward. His aggressive and determined spirit was an inspiration to all of his men." Sergeant Dodge entered the service April 19. 1943. He is a graduate of the Orchard High School.
