CAMBRIA - David E. Lloyd, age 88 of rural Cambria, died early Friday Feb. 15, 2002 at the Divine Savior Nursing Home in Portage.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Cambria with Reverends Julie WaterDu, Neal and Carole Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Cambria Cemetery.

David was born on Aug. 27, 1913 in Courtland Township the son of Evan Balwin and Jennie May (Jones) Lloyd. David was educated in Cambria school system and was a 1935 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Animal Husbandry. At the university, he was active in Men's Glee Club and musical productions. He continued to enjoy music and the preservation of the Welsh heritage through the annual singing festivals (Gymanfa Ganu). On May 16, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marion Jean Dodge in Cambria.

David has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cambria all his life and active in all church activities. He served as a past Elder and Deacon. He had been a farmer all his life and engaged in several cooperative activities. He served as a director on the State Executive Board of the Wisconsin Farmers Union - a division of the National Farmers Union - for 18 years. In 1976, he was elected State Vice President retiring in 1983. David also served on the Board of Directors for Courtland-Springvale Township Insurance from 1965 to 1995 and dedicated many years to the Equity Co-op Shipping Association and the Eastern Columbia Farmers Union. David will always be remembered as "Mr. Farmers Union" and as an avid supporter of all causes encouraging the welfare of agriculture and the family farmer.

David will be sadly missed and mourned by his wife, Marion of rural Cambria; two daughters, Eleanor (David) Layton of Nevada and Jeannette Jones of Cambria; one step-daughter, Sherry (Wayne) Bornich of Portage; two step-sons, Phillip (Marilyn) Slinger of Green Bay and Douglas (Mary Ann) Slinger of Beaver Dam; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John in 1972, one son-in-law, Donald Jones; one grandson, Hugh Layton and one great-granddaughter, Jazmyn Hope Stumph.

Family and friends may call at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home in Cambria on Monday, Feb. 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
