Albert Dodge

Albert Dodge I, married Susan House on June 10, 1838 in LaSalle County, Illinois. They were married by R. p. Ashley in Plainfield, IL. Albert and Susan had two children: Albert Dodge II was born May 12, 1840. Jane Dodge was born January 20, 1844.

The 1840 Census shows an Albert Dodge living in LaSalle County, Illinois. There were 3 adults living in the house. One male under 5 years old (Albert II?), one male, between 20 and 30 yrs old (Albert I?),and one female 15 to 20 years old (Susan?). (We think that this is Albert Dodge I but we cannot prove it.)

Susan House is the daughter of Chester House who came with his family to Illinois in 1833 and pre-empted a farm on Aux Sable Creek in what is now Seward Township of Kendall County, IL. The Houses were rather prominent at that time in that area.

We know that Susan House Dodge became a member of the Bristol/Yorkville Congregational Church in November 1837. No mention of Albert. Data taken from church membership roll. She was given a letter of dismissal (honorable) in 1846.

We cannot find any additional references to Albert Dodge I. No burial records etc.

Susan House Dodge, Albert Dodge II and Jane Dodge lived with her brother Justus House in Seward Township, Kendall County, IL for many years.

Jane Dodge married David Owens September 3, 1862. She and her husband are buried in the Seward Mound Cemetery in Seward Township, Kendall County, IL.

Albert Dodge II married Emma Walton apparently in 1873. (To date we have been unable to find record of the marriage license.

Albert Dodge II died on May 12, 1878. He is buried in the Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield, IL, along with his Mother, Susan House Dodge in the same lot with her brother Justus and his wife.

Albert Dodge III was born August 25, 1878. We have his extended family records.

My question to you. The census and marriage records of Illinois show several Dodges living in Northern Illinois, in fact, in Kendall County in the 1830's and 1840's. My intuition tells me that they may all be
related.
