The DNA is collected by a swab of the inside of the cheek. It is NOT a blood sample.
The DNA results are obtained by looking at the 23rd pair of chromosones which is the sex gene.
They are not unique to a person, and therefore cannot be used to identify one individual.
This is not the DNA that used in forensics. That is the autosomal DNA, i.e., the other 22 pairs of chroimosomes.
In 2004, our DNA Project was started by a Dodge Family Association member, Phil Slinger. Since that time, we have had many Dodges sign on to this project and we have been able to learn some very interesting things because of that. We also have been able to solve THREE of our mystery Dodge lines because of DNA results, and other mystery Dodge lines who have tested appear to be linked with a common ancestor in a particular line.
Still needed: Many, many more Dodge descendants from William, Richard, and Tristam who are willing to submit DNA samples. We are using the sample results to break down family groups and also to help place the many mystery Dodge lines into a possible family group.
A note to our English Dodges: It would help other Dodges in England who are looking for their Dodge connection, if you
Information on how our DNA Project works:
- Surname Male DODGES are needed for this DNA project. If you are a female or a male Dodge descendant with another
surname you must have a close male DODGE relative be your "proxy" and be tested to get your DODGE DNA.
- DODGE FAMILY ASSOCIATION DNA PROJECT FUND has some funds that have been contributed by Dodges who are interested in seeing the potential of this project in speeding up the process of assisting members filling in their Dodge line(s). Helping someone from this fund is decided by our group of co-administrators on a case by casse basis. However,
most people, if really interested in finally at least making a breach in their brick wall, should be able to pay for themselves.
The rewards are certainly worth it.
