Thought you might enjoy this photo of an older Elmer Dodge, not sure of the date. My husband wondered if it might not be a wedding picture. Jann Dodge Picture of Sherwood Fayett Dodge, son of John Winslow Dodge. Taken in Oelwein, Iowa. That is very interesting about Elmer Ellsworth, and pretty colorful. Seems like I heard that Sherwood had these kind of jobs. traveling salesman blacksmith supervisor of railroad work crew layman veterinarian and I have a picture of him working in the lumberyard in Shenendoah, Iowa. Hope this one works! Bob D ----- Original Message ----- From: Jann Dodge To: Robert Dodge Bob: I thought of something you may not know about Elmer Ellsworth Dodge. He went to Alaska during the Klondike era, I believe in 1897 or 98. My husbands dad was born January 31, 1900. So....that means that he was at least here the first of May in 1899. Elmer's obituary was in the paper (we hear) but, surprise he was still alive. He came home and still had pneumonia. We understand from my husbands father that Elmer Ellsworth had gone as a "teamster." Before that he had been in the Olympia, WA fire department. These men were versatile it seems, I will send you a picture we have of Elmers dad in his peddler wagon. It was not as nice as the one that Sherwood had, though. Take care, Jann D. Jann: Here it is. Hope you get it OK. Oelwein is a town in Iowa, that is all I know. Can you e-mail me a copy.....I have torn everything apart looking for my copy. Whatever is the word "Oelwein?" Something German? I thought that it was a hotel lobby Sherwood was in, maybe not. I am glad you have a copy. The brothers are (I believe)... Back: George Everett, Sherwood Fayette, Elmer Ellsworth, and Herbert Raymond Front: John Winslow Dodge, Benjamin Earl. Benjamin was the son John had with his last wife Elizabeth Lamb, and I believe Benjamin was born in Crete, Nebraska. John and Elizabeth are buried 20 ft. from Elmer and Herbert in Tumwater, WA. Can you name the brothers? I'm not sure who is who. I think I have a copy of the photo you ask about. Sherwood is standing with a hat on, in front of a long counter, and there is a long staircase in the background. On the back of this one is written "Oelwein?". Have a fine day Bob D ----- Original Message ----- From: Jann Dodge To: Robert Dodge Sent: Monday, September 06, 2004 9:49 PM Subject: Fw: Pictures I hope you didn't mind ....I forwarded the one of the five brothers to the Dodge Family Association. Barbara Dodge wrote back asking if it would be o.k. to add the photo to the newsletter. I told her to go ahead, hope that was all right with you. She was very impressed with the picture!!! You did well!!! I have seen another photo of Sherwood standing in a hotel lobby with his hat on, seems like it was in Keokuk, Iowa. Does that sound like anything you have seen?? Jann What a wonderful surprise!!! Those pictures are wonderful, the only one we had seen was the one of John W. Dodge as an older man. I loved the chair Sherwood was sitting on in front of the house. Those chairs are really in style now for decorating. I noticed that Sherwood had 2 rings on, one was probably a wedding ring. The other one??? Does anyone in the family know? The picture of John with his 5 sons was one of my favorite, I noticed that Elmer was a tad bit vain. He buttoned the top button of his jacket (what am I talking about, I would do the same thing). They were all such handsome men, I don't think they particularly looked like John. Maybe their mother... they all had the same strong characteristics. My daughter was here and she loved the carriage with Sherwood, she decided she would certainly go buy something from him. They were all just wonderful and very much appreciated. . Jann Dodge
