I sure wish I had proof of some type, though, and not just a photograph. I remember my grandmother telling me that the family moved around a lot, which might explain why I can't find Hiram, or Agnes, in any censuses. Attached is a picture of Hiram Dodge with then-2-year-old Earle (hiram_earle.jpg), taken in 1928. In this photo, the badge is fairly clear. The other photo (earle_hiram.jpg) was taken when Earle was an infant, and has a better view of Hiram's face. Hopefully, if these pictures can be submitted to anything, someone will recognize Hiram as being part of their line, as well. I've searched through several Pinkerton sites on line, but haven't been able to come up with a list of past detectives. I've found several Hiram Dodge's, but none are my great-grandfather. Judging by the picture of my father as an infant in Hiram's arms, I'm guessing Hiram was assigned to the Phoenix area around the time of Dad's birth. I do not know if Herbert, Hiram's son, had any siblings. I have no recollection of my father referring to any aunts, uncles or cousins -- any my mother doesn't know. She only knows of Dad's brothers, sisters, parents and paternal grandparents. Barb, I sincerely appreciate the interest you've shown in my ancestry. Because of your interest, I've decided not to put my genealogy research away again, as I did for about 10 years. You've given me hope, for which I thank you most sincerely. You mentioned in this e-mail a Pinkerton Badge............that means hem ust have beena Pinkerton detective. I wonder if there is any way to get information from that? ANd also, since they ended up in Arizona...I wonder if they were related at all to the Fred Dodge who was in law owrk down there. That is why I am sending this to Stephen because he had been doing some reading about a Detective, or Marshall. or some such thin of a Fred Dodge in Arizona. IN faxct there was at least one book written about him. Stephen................can you come up with anything about this? Barb Cheryl wrote: Good morning, Barbara & Chuck; All of the information I have listed are accurate as far as I can tell. All of the Dodge Family information I have was written down in my younger sister's Baby Book by our grandmother, Agnes. I have a picture of Hiram holding Earle, with Hiram wearing his Pinkerton "star" badge. His name, and Dad's, were written on the back of the photo. I've searched and searched the Internet for anything on my Dodge family to absolutely no avail. I'm hoping I can finally find something to add to what little information I have.
