Received from a non-Dodge who enjoys researching genealogy! 21 December 2002 Dodge Family Journal 9556 Garrison Court Westminster, CO 80021 I have been working on the father of Ireneus/Ireneous Bruce Dodge for sometime but only found out recently that Ireneus was his son. That the parents of Ireneus should be a mystery for long is itself a mystery because there is a biography of him in “The Biographical Record of Bureau, Marshall and Putnam Counties, Illinois” (1896). He states his parents are Rev. John R. Dodge and Mary Worden. I hope eventually to publish a short genealogy of John R. Dodge but will give the bare outline here. He was married three times that I know of, Mary Worden being the first. Ireneus states he died in New York City in 1872 at Ireneus’ brother’s (Eusebius W(illliam) Dodge; died Oneida Co., N.Y., 5 June 1869, but apparently resident of N.Y.C.; cf. N.Y. Times, 9 June 1869) but the date I have is 1864. In either case, I have been unable to confirm it. John Richardson Dodge and Peter Ingoldsfield/Ingerfield (not J.) Dodge were the sons of John and Ruth (Ruddock) Dodge (see The Records of the Churches of Boston (NEHGS CD-ROM); NEHGR 121:239 (1967); Boston Record Comm. 30:115; and Boston Evening Transcript, 12 Feb. 1930). (although by the 1850 census record Ruth Bruce would not have been old enough to have married in 1792 and the oldest I can make her by earlier censuses is 16 in 1792). The Anna living with Peter I. Dodge in 1850 may have been Frances Hannah Raymond but the Raymond genealogy (1886) says she died in 1949. The William and Henry living with Ireneus in 1850 are probably his brothers. The census says William was born in Penn. And John R. Dodge was living there in 1830. I have never found John R. in 1850 but I didn’t know his birthplace or exact age until recently. In 1860 John R. Dogson (physician; he apparently left the ministry about 1850) is living next to I.D. Doge in Bureau county!! I was down to Bureau county a few weeks ago but hope to get down there soon again. I obtained a few copies from the large probate file of Irenius(sic) B. Dodge (#3294). I see Peter I.Dodge has a file (#384) and am hoping (but doubting) that Winslow or Ruth Bruce had one. I am also working on the family of Asahel Dodge of Lee, Mass and New York and Ohio (who has nothing to do with John R. et. Al.) I am not related to any of these Dodges! Mike
