I will say tho that when my father lived in Omaha, Illinoi,s there was a Wallace family that he held in high regard. I visited them as a child. One of the ladies was called Aunt Mag Wallace. I do not think that we were related tho believe it was just an affectionate term. The name Cob Wallace also comes to mind. This only serves to inform that the Wallaces and Dodges lived in the same area in Illinois in early 1900s. you'll see a lot of biblical names (Josiah for Joseph, etc.). I can't help but wonder if Gimaliel is the biblical name for William. He married the only Margaret in the bunch. Of course, in order for this theory to hold water, this would have to be his second wife- but that is not at all unbelievable given the track record of this family! If we allow that William's daughter Margaret may have been born as late as 1814 (she was married in 1831), then this fits. His first wife may have been a Sarah (Sally) or Mary (Polly). But of course this remains speculation for now. I firmly believe that Margaret was the first wife of William Dodge, SR. Since we have ruled out Polly Watson as his 2nd wife that leaves Keziah as his second wife and widow, which is a fact. His widow, Keziah, and son, Vincent were named in his will. Probably because all the others had moved away with exeption of Willis. I would think, though, with that many Dodges in one locality we are dealing with the descendants of at least one or two starter families that arrived in NC very early- like within a few generations of the MA arrivals. It may be that one or more of Tristram's grandsons (of who many are not accounted for- quite a few Williams too I might add) broke away in the early 1700s and settled in NC. Of the Dodges in KY in 1810, excepting the Israel and Josiah bunch in Hardin County, there is only one Dodge that is old enough to have fathered William (that is still alive in 1810 anyway), and that's Richard. You'll note that one of William's first-born sons was named Richard (its hard to say whether Richard or John came first since I can't find John in the 1850 census). William also named a daughter Hannah. At this point I think its safe to bet that William, b. 1777 is the first-born son of Richard and Hannah Dodge. What continues to be perplexing is that there is no mention of him anywhere in KY records, and that the first record we have of him is in 1817 in Indiana. I am certain that Richard connects with this Currituck County bunch- did you notice all the Willis'! and that the Currituck and Camden County bunches are connected further back to founding brothers of a single family. We now just have to find that family...... Here is something you may be interested in . . . From the 1850 AR census, Yell Co., Dardanelle Twp., p.447 John Dodge age 44 farmer b.p. KY Elizabeth; 44 TN George B. " 17 IN Nancy T. ; 15 IN Taplay T.; 11 IN Andrew T ; ? 9 hard to read IL Francis B ; 5 male AR So it appears T. T. is not an only child and that his father was born in KY rather than NC I looked a long time at Andrew; on my CRT so it is a best guess - perhaps an actual film census would read better. Subject: Kentucky Dodges William Dodge, b 1777, lived in Kentucky before going to Indiana in early 1800s. The name Lodema was used in this family. Also his wife, Keziah, was born a Cox and married first to a John Ramsey. I can not see where there is a connection to Josiah but there could be one. It is believed that our Dodge line came to Ky from NC.
