Dear Barb,
I have recently been doing some research, via the internet, concerning my Dodge ancestors. I have mentioned them before to you and nothing has ever turned up linking them to the main Dodge lines.
My gr gr grandfather, Wilson Pond Dodge, had a brother Welcome Eddy Dodge, who left New York State in the middle 1800's and eventually settled in Nebraska. That is about all we knew until a descendant of Welcome had some research done and we found out about one of Welcome's sons, Seth Wison Dodge.
We also believed that the father of Wilson and Welcome was Calvin Dodge and his wife, Nancy Eddy, daughter of Welcome Eddy, but never found any information to confirm this. I may have given this information to you before.
I was searching throught the Genweb site for Gage County, Nebraska and found where I could request the biography of Seth Wilson Dodge, which I did. It seems that what we believed about Wilson, Welcome and Calvin was accurate. I even found that Wilson and Welcome had married sisters, Matilda and Mary Jane Kane. The biography also states that Calvin was a native of Massachusetts, which I had not known I am wondering if with this new data that there might be a possibility of connecting to a Dodge line.
I am including the biography in this email. I will soon be able to send you all of my Dodge line in a few weeks. It is entered into my computer using Family Tree Maker 7.0. What is the easiest way to get it to you? I would assume that pertinent data about living relatives in my tree would not be made available to others, as I do not have their permission to make it public, and I have many reservations about that issue. What is the policy of the Dodge Family Association?

Seth Wilson Dodge
Dr. Seth Wilson Dodge, physician and surgeon of Fairbury, and also mayor a second term of the same municipality, has been a resident of this part of Nebraska for over thirty-five years, and has made a fine record in his profession and as a citizen. He was a successful teacher before he entered upon the practice of medicine, and since taking up the latter career has devoted himself assiduously to its study and practice. He is a man of great popularity among the citizens of Fairbury, as his place as their executive head would indicate, and in private and public life has been capable and public-spirited.
Dr. Dodge was born in Utica, New York, September 4, 1849, and comes of a good family. His grandparents were Calvin and Nancy (Eddy) Dodge, the former a native of Massachusetts and the latter of New York. His father was W. E. Dodge, born in New York and a farmer of that state. He married Matilda Kane, a native of New York and a daughter of Peter and Mehitable Kane, the former of whom was a soldier in the war of 1812.
W.E. and Matilda Dodge had six children, three sons and three daughters, and four of them are living, the son Peter being a veterinary surgeon of Polo, Illinois. The mother of these children died at the age of seventy-five, and the father at eighty. He was a Republican, and both were members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Dr. Dodge was reared until the age of sixteen in New York, and then came to Rochelle, Ogle county, Illinois, where he completed his common school education. He afterward took a course in the state Normal in Peru, Nebraska, and at the State University of Nebraska. He taught for a number of years, and was in the schools of Beatrice, Nebraska.
He began the study of medicine with Dr. D.A. Walden at Beatrice, and was graduated with his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1882. He has served as city physician in Fairbury and was on the school board for five years. He is a Mason and also affiliates with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and is a representative to the grand lodge of the state. He has gained good and representative patronage since locating in this city, and enjoys the complete confidence of friends and associates. He took a
post-graduate course in medicine in Kansas City in 1893.
Dr. Dodge married in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1875, to Miss Lotta V. Giles, a lady of education and refinement, and she was born in Peoria, Illinois, a daughter of Joseph and Susan Giles, both of whom are deceased. They have two sons, C.W.G. Dodge is a graduate of dental surgery at Chicago, in 1899, and is now practicing at Hastings, Nebraska; Guy L. graduated from the Creighton Medical School, Omaha, in 1902, and is now practicing with his father. Both sons were educated in the Nebraska State University, and they also served during the Spanish war in the Second Nebraska Regiment.

Welcome Eddy born 4 May 1772, Gloucester, RI. Died 1850, Orlean, Jefferson Co., NY
He was the son of Thomas Eddy / Anne Jenckes.
He married Robey Bennett. . .
Had a Daughter, Hannah who married Calvin Dodge - Nancy may have been nickname.

Welcome Eddy and Calvin Dodge are in the Schuyler NY censuses of 1820, 1830, 1840

For the Kane surname - a possible parent is Peter Kane, 1830 NY census, Otsego Co.
This census shows two girls under 5 years old - one could be Matilda

If Calvin Dodge's age is off a bit in the 1850 census, there is a POSSIBILITY in the Calvin Dodge, b. 17 Aug 1806 in Groton, MA to Thomas Dodge / Lucy Sawtell. I do not find this 10 child family in our data base.

The biography stating that Calvin was from MA suggesting a John Dodge descendancy could be in error. Names like Calvin and Seth also point to a Tristram Dodge descendancy. Our TRW book shows a Calvin(6) Dodge b. 7 Sep 1776 to Stephen(5) Dodge (David4, David Britain3, John2, Tristram1) (page 169).

There is a marriage (page 114) of Calvin Dodge to Hulda Robbins 26 Feb 1799 - agewise these two Calvins could be the same and having a son, Calvin b. abt 1801 is a possibility.

Your Welcome Dodge had a son, Stephen B.- perhaps Stephen Britain. The Calvin, Seth and even Harriet are names used often in this Dodge line and frequently these naming patterns give us strong clues.

Since my posting, I have found that the S. W. in my gr gr grandfather's name stands for Seth Wilson. His father was Welcome Eddy Dodge. My gr grandpa had two brothers, Guy and Hal. Hal died at age 4, I believe. Welcome Eddy Dodge's brother is Wilson Pond Dodge.
